School Managed iPads or  Personal or Hybrid option

Family- Personal managed iPads

For families choosing to manage their devices personally, You'll need to create your own non-credit card Apple ID.  Apple requires individuals to be 13 years old to create Apple ID accounts.

For students over 13, we are asking that you create the school Apple ID using the school Gmail accounts (i.e. johndoe2021) to provide consistency and a 'home base' for all school work. This Apple ID will be used through graduation from Medfield High School.  For incoming 7th and 8th graders who are returning to Blake, the accounts that were set up for the 2014-2015 school year through the school Gmail accounts should suffice.

For those students under age 13 (incoming 6th graders and some 7th graders), Apple ID accounts will be set up through the School Apple ID Enrollment Program.  Parents of these students should be receiving an e-mail from Apple requesting verification to establish an Apple ID through the Medfield Public Schools.  Apple IDs should not be set up until the e-mail from Apple is received.  Our hope is that those e-mails will be sent out in the next two weeks.  Once those accounts have been registered with Apple, we will send out another e-mail to Blake families as a reminder.

These accounts should be set up prior to the start of the school year.  We strongly recommend that the accounts should be non-credit card accounts.  The directions for this process/procedure can be found at this link:  Non-Credit Card Account Procedure.

Also, please check out Apple's steps for establishing a secure password for Apple ID:  Apple ID Password Security.  Students are strongly encouraged to create/use the same password for their Google accounts and Apple IDs.

Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the start of school regarding tips for family management, apps, and strategies.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact Nat Vaughn.

Tips & Suggestions

Connecting to the School WIFI: All students will have an individual login to connect to our WIFI network.

The Guest Network  is available which does not require a password and can be used as a last resort if a student is having trouble logging in.   Students are required to use the MSWIFI network and not to use cell data.

Passcodes: You are able to set a passcode to protect your device. Please keep it recorded somewhere in Notes app or with your parents. Your iPad will become disabled if it is attempted incorrectly too many times, which in some cases, requires a complete restore.

Battery Usage: To maintain a good charge throughout the school day, set your iPad's autolock (in general settings) to 2-15 minutes. This helps prevent running down your battery by putting your iPad to sleep. Also, dim the display brightness when possible. Turn off notifications or turn on DO NOT DISTURB and close any apps you are not using at that moment.

iCloud Storage: Apple offers 5 GB of free storage for backing up your iPad's data such as your photo library, accounts, documents, and settings. It is very simple to set up with using your school Apple ID. Then, select exactly which apps you would like to back up - be selective!

Organizing your iPad with Folders: One of the first things your teachers will do is to teach you how to organize your apps by creating folders- Click here for ahead start!

Apple ID layering: We ask that the School Apple ID is a non-credit card account and used only for school-related purposes, not personal. Apple does allow you to use more than one Apple ID with your iPad by signing in and out of those accounts through the General Settings or when downloading an app. If you are purchasing apps or games or music, etc., please use this option.

Find My Phone: Installing the Find My Phone app can be a life saver when it comes to locating your device that maybe misplaced or lost--ie. Did I leave it in the car or at home. However, it is not specific enough if you can not find it at school, to tell you the room.  It can also protect your device if someone else has found it- allowing you to remotely erase and lock it. One other nice benefit is when you forget your passcode and your iPad becomes disabled, you can remotely lock and reset your passcode using Find My Phone!
