Google Apps for Education

The Medfield School District uses Google Apps for Education district-wide for teachers and students as our platform for communication and collaboration.  All staff and students in grades 4-12 have a school google account (@email.medfield.net).  This differs from a personal gmail/google account in that Medfield Public Schools has full control over creating and managing the account and their access to Google CORE apps: gmail, drive, classroom, slides, sheets as well additional products such as YouTube, Bloggger, etc.  It is expected that students will use the same account through graduation or leaving the Medfield Public School district.

School Google Accounts/ Gmail

Students in Grades 4-12 have their own school google accounts to use throughout their years with Medfield Public Schools to include gmail.

WORKFLOW

The digital workflow is how students access content and assignments that a teacher pushes out and ALSO, being able to turn in their work digitally too. This workflow starts with a teacher setting up Google Classroom and/or a website that contains announcements, curriculum content and links to assignments that students may complete digitally using any number of apps and edtech tools. If Google Classroom is used, students turn in their work through that platform. Otherwise, most teachers have a shared google drive folder where work can be submitted and another option is always email.

THE NEW DIGITAL BINDER.

Think of Google Drive as the student's new virtual binder or where all work is kept! It allows students to store files in the cloud, share files, and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with collaborators.

Google Drive will be an important part of the work flow of getting work from teachers and how to turn work into to teachers.

Google Drive includes other web-based, productivity applications like:

  • Google Docs= online word processor

  • Google Slides = online presentation tool

  • Google Sheets = online spreadsheet

  • Google Forms = online survey tool

Suggestions:

A good rule to remember is that using Google
via web offers more functionality than a device app whether it is IOS or Android.  So there may be times when the task should be completed on a computer and vice versa.

The Google IOS Apps are always updating and improving. Please pay attention and keep your apps updated to the latest version.
