Here we goooo, 2022-23!!🔥

The new school year is kicking off on Aug. 31st ... so let's get it started!

The Makerspace is rolling out a game plan to make sure all Blakers get to experience everything it has to offer from the new machines, materials and learn the rules of the road!

Here's a few things you need to know:

📍Where? The Makerspace is located in the LMC. Head all the way to the back right corner where you'll see workbenches, a shiny new laminated floor and all of kinds of materials.

🤔 What can I make? There are special machines like Cricut Cutting machine, 3D printer, sewing machine and GlowForge laser cutting machine. These machines let students and teachers experiment with all kinds of materials from plastic, woods, leathers, felt and fabrics. It all depends on what you have in mind! The machines do use different software, safety rules, and will require students /classes to check in with Ms. Horvath for guidance.

The Makerspace also has microcontrollers, motors, LEDs, fans and a wide variety of electronics to add movement, light, sound and control to your project ideas too. In addition, textile art has a big place in the Makerspace with tools for knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, and machine sewing.

Check out our Project Gallery or Instagram page to see what we've work on in the previous years.

🦉 Who runs the Makerspace? Ms. Horvath is the Technology Integration /Makerspace Specialist. Her role is to help students & teachers with digital literacy and provide some tech support (Chromebooks, Accounts, Education Tools), teaches the 6th Grade Coding Class and runs the Makerspace.

When can you use the Makerspace? Generally, teachers will connect with Ms. Horvath to schedule a time in the Makerspace or another options is to bring materials /machines to the classrooms. 6th Grade Explorations, Advisories, 8th Grade Science, and Math classes consistently integrate Making into their curriculums. There will also be other special events, such as Hour of Code, Stem Week, etc. that give students time in the Makerspace.

If a student (s) have a special project they would like to work on in the Makerspace, stop by and check in with Ms. Horvath, Mrs. Walton or Mrs. Cole first.

💥 Kick Off The Year with a Maker Boot Camp Lesson!

Each advisory should schedule a time for Boot Camp Lessons to learn about the materials and machines & how to use them safely & creatively!
