Step 2: Choose Your Hour of Code

Preview with students the options below. All choices are accessible on the iPad through the web browser (safari or chrome app) or by installing the app, if needed.

Option: CODE.ORG/LEARN

Choose from several options of MineCraft, Star Wars, Frozen, Angry Birds, and Flappy Birds for self-guided puzzles! It's an easy way to become familiar by using visual programming (with JavaScript on the backend). No coding experience needed!

 

Code.org can be accessed on any computer or device by going to the website. No Sign in is required unless you'd like to save your place! Then simply sign in with your school Google Account!

Option: HOPSCOTCH APP

This iPad app let's you start from scratch to make something #AWESOME, play and remix other Hopscotchers' games, or follow and learn from many cool tutorials!

 

1. Install the App

2. Sign Up (you can skip adding your email address)

3. Choose:  Home - to play other HopScotcher's games 
                     Mountains- try working through challenge levels

                     + Sign- Start a New Project or Try a Tutorial

Option: advanced javascript

For our more advanced coders, try learning to write in JavaScript using these websites.

  2. CodeHS Introduction to Programming with Karel- it's like teaching commands to your dog!
     

  3. Code Academy with Quick and Fun Challenges!
     

  4. Code Combat to learn how to code a game with Python or JavaScript.
